Cape Verde Arrival...

We have completed the voyage from Tenerife to Cape Verde! 880 miles in 192 hours, mostly on a port tack. We dropped anchor in the harbour of Palmiera, on the island of Sal, where we found 20-30 other yachts at anchor. We made our way through a few and anchored closer to the shore than most... The anchor bit hard on something so we feel secure for the night. It's always a bit of a wary dropping anchor into unknown ground, so we attached a small pick up buoy to the anchor to assist in retrieving it if it has got snagged. It has been an interesting voyage, nothing broken, no close shaves, just one liner which passed within half a mile, a strange blue green light bobbing along in the dead of night, fairly regular visits by Atlantic spotted Dolphins, and in the last two days lots of flying fish. Bird life has been extremely sparse, a swallow, some shearwaters, or fulmars? too far off to see if they had yellow or red legs.... A couple of turtles seemingly just hanging around then...

Farewell Cape Town... delayed blog...

this blog posting should have reached my Blog on the 20th Feb... but for some reason it did not leave my iPad. A quick update to say that after seemingly interminable delays waiting for spares... Tin Tin finally departed Cape Town on the 20th Feb.. (2 days after my visa expired!) We motored out of the Cape Grace Marina at 0620 and headed due North towards Lüderitz in Namibia. We made a quick transition back to voyage life, 3 hrs on and 6 off, and our trusty lunchtime salad of shredded red and white cabbage, with a trailmix and mayo dressing, made a welcome reappearance. we have had visits from 3 new species, Haviside's and Dusky Dolphins as well as Shy albatross. These are in addition to the magic encounter we had with Southen Right whales whilst out testing the water maker around Robben island. It was the water maker that delayed out departure from Cape Town as we waited for spares only to find that they didn't improve the problem. Eventually the local expert John sugges...

Bay of Delight, sun, sea and shorts!

We are about mid way across the notorious Bay of Biscay now (46 Deg 19.36Min N, 06 Deg 42.03 West), and we are blessed with a calm sea and friendly winds of 15 knts with a good bit of Easterly so we are broad reaching on a heading of 192 degrees towards la Corunna. We expect to reach this northern Spanish port around mid day on Weds. Our exit from Camaret went smoothly (no hatches left open to douse any berths his time Philip Iceaxe!). We were soon under sail and looking at making the tide gate for the Raz de Sein but he wind encourage us to continue on our course to the West past the lighthouse and the final bouy marking the end of the Illes de Sein. We have been in close company with an Estonian boat named 'Tormalind' who are also sailing south to the Canaries.
